Preparation for our Cosmic Portraits….

We can turn up and get creative or you can have a look at my guidelines to prepare & ensure that you get the most out of your shoot.

  1.  LIGHT - Good light = good photography. I will be searching for interesting and flattering light for your portraits.

BEFOREHAND - You can book the shoot when you know that you get the best light in your space. Clear and style areas around windows, I will be getting you in and around those areas to soak up that natural light.

  2. ARTIFICIAL LIGHT = we can get creative and add light by using lamps, lava lamps, desk lights, LED lights….whatever you have that we can add into the shot.

BEFOREHAND - Have extra lights in mind, on and ready to show me when you introduce me to your space at the start of our shoot.

  3. SPACE - Simple & clear. This is all about expressing you. So make sure your space is looking tidy and styled in a way you are happy for it to be photographed.

BEFOREHAND - Clear up (IE put things in cupboards!). Move chairs you might want to sit on closer to light sources.

  4. PROPS = I will be bossing you about trying to get the best angles, heights and places to shoot from. Having options ready to provide the most flexibility with this helps.

BEFOREHAND - Get an ironing boards, which allows for multiple heights and is also easy to move around. Maybe some books to hand to add height. Another option is a step ladder, a clothes dryer with something flat to lie across at various levels or get creative!

  5. OTHER HANDY PROPS - These are meant to fun, creative and make-do shoots from isolation. I will be looking for new ideas to get creative with your space and play with light and composition.

BEFOREHAND - Look at your space, I’ve used mirrors to bounce light and create interesting compositions, plants create interest, pets, children, partners, accessories, hang a sheet of fabric or your favourite sheet for a backdrop, have a sheer curtain or sheet to hand to diffuse hard light…..express yourself and have fun with thinking about what you want to do.

  6. RELAX & DON’T OVERTHINK IT - This is a smallish investment for a professional photoshoot and is a safe, relaxed way to have a tase of what it’s like and have a fun escape from the current climate. This is an exploration and a mini adventure.

BEFOREHAND - What would you love to try? Remember this is just me and you and you can let me know if you don’t want the images shared for marketing or request to select some images to remain private. Wear something that makes you feel fabulous. Try a pose that empowers you or tell me an idea you have fantasised about beforehand. Put some music that you love on (Not too loud so you can here me!). Create a space you feel good in. Move in a way that feels like you on a good day.

  7. TRUST ME - I’ve been shooting portraits for a long time. Breath deeply, stretch and listen carefully to my directions.

  8. LOGISTICS AND TECHNICALS - You have probably read this already but just to reinterate

Ensure you can download the app ( Iphone users download Clos Remote | Android users download Chekhlataya | Remote Cam)

  9. TIN CAN AND HAIR BAND - Be ready to go, we have 40 minutes to create and I want to make the most of your time.

BEFOREHAND - Have a fruity can to hand, you will tie your phone onto this with a hairband (works best) or an elastic band. Also have a prop to hand (either a tooth brush or a something a similar shape, size, with a little grip) That can slide between the phone and the tin at the top of the bottom and allows more flexibility and control over the angles we can shoot at.

  10. INTERNET - A good connection allows me to see the light and the space better.

BEFOREHAND - If possible kick everything else off the internet for 40 minutes (It’ll be good for them!)

  11. USE THE BEST CAMERA PHONE THAT YOU HAVE - The quality of the images will be effected by the quality of the camera that you use (We can the create with any type)

BEFOREHAND - If you can borrow a housemates/partners phone for the shoot this will help the quality if their camera has higher pixels, higher resolution means a better quality of image.

  12. INTRODUCE - I will send you a link to a virtual room via text or WhatsApp just before the shoot, when you’re ready click on the link. I want to see what we’re working with. Show me around, tell me your ideas (Or leave it to me) before we get going. Be flexible.

MOST OF ALL, have fun, create and come on an adventure with me for 40 minutes of your lockdown life :)
